HIMACHAL - A FOREWORD

Till this day, nearly every leave I had availed had been spent entirely at home. The urge to do something off the beaten track, both of the mind as well as of society, had been nagging me for some time. Partly inspired by a friend and his stories of travelling alone across Europe, I decided to start with something a little closer to home – travelling alone across Himachal Pradesh.

I booked my LTC-B tickets to Chandigarh and back, choosing the first two weeks of my month long mid-year break to go on the trip. Hours of research later, I had a fair idea as to what the state of Himachal was all about, it’s layout on the map and the approximate route I had to follow. However, what I had decided not to follow was a strict schedule, timeline or itinerary. Intending to travel without too much deliberation on details or planning ahead, I borrowed an appropriately sized rucksack from Nimish, mine being too big for a two week trip, a foldable tent from Viraat, and bought myself a sleeping bag from Crawford Market.

Deciding to travel light, I packed the rucksack, incorporating the tent and sleeping bag to make it one maneuverable and handy package. Oozing excitement and anticipation, I finally dozed off with great expectations for the morrow.
